Sept 01, 2013 - Welcome My hybrids at  (2013 Info & Catalog)
For me, this year's stand out new hybrid was 05-GQ-4: black on a yellow ground. I've never quite seen anything like it. There have been yellows with dark markings, but this takes things to a whole new level; a new dimension. Question is, what do other people think?
Another new stand out was 06-AK-2, which coincidentally bloomed for the first time right on Easter weekend. The way light reflected off it was incredible. It really stood out. There was something about its particular shade of yellow-green; a luminescent quality that shawn like a beacon.
The one hybrid I was most looking forward to seeing again was 05-HW-1. I had damaged the main bulb when I went to replant it in 2011, the year it first bloomed.
I wasn't disappointed. I took just over 500 photos of it over its 12 plus day bloom (it was cover with an upside down tin can, to keep the rain off and the bees away, just like all of the other Reticulatas that I hybridize). I added a second page with some of those, showing it from bud waiting to open, through to withered flower
The highlight to finish off the season was a hybrid that I can only refer to as 'Huge Purple with Mauve Standards from 2000.' It had been moved when I was getting ready to plant the 2010 seeds into the 2000 area. I kept track of some of the hybrids, but not this one. It stood out when it bloomed in 2011. I marked it with the intent of sending it to Holland. Or at least I thought I had marked it. When I went to dig it That fall I couldn't find it, and thought it had died out. Turns out, instead of being behind the tag, it was actually in front. Needless to say I marked it very, very carefully this year when it was in bloom. Two pieces have been dug and will be sent to Holland.
What's so special about it you ask? Well it's relatively huge. Overall its size was a reasonable 60mm tip-to-tip [actual mature flower was triangular: 59-60-70mm], but what really set it off was its very wide falls (21mm) and wide standards (13mm) [23 and 14mm at maturity]. This compares to 12-16mm and 7-10mm respectively for typical Reticulatas.
Its flowers lasted more than 7 days near the end of April. Exactly how long I'm not sure. I noticed it on the 21, but it possibly had opened the day before. The last picture I took was on the 27th. I actually picked the flower and pressed one of the falls between two microscope slides for posterity.

I have given the website an update. I now assume everyone has a fairly good internet connection. All of the pictures are at least 25% larger. In the case of the home screen the photos are 70% larger. This is something I've been meaning to do for some time, but never had time to "make it so." The web pages are designed to be displayed on screens at least 1600 pixels wide so you are better able to enjoy the flowers.
'The Big Picture' gives you a bit of an idea of what I have accomplished. The photos on that web page need to be better organized. For the moment I simply added 30 more to the bottom of the page. I have additional ideas in mind, but they will have to wait until I have more time.
